Friends of Dorothy are launching the UK’s first Silver Pride event, which aims to tackle loneliness and isolation in older people within the LGBT+ community and provides an opportunity to celebrate them too. The virtual event will take place between Saturday 25 July and Sunday 26 July, with drag make-up and mental health masterclasses, live DJ sets and performances from choirs, musicians, dancers and storytellers, including Christopher Biggins. With this year marking the 50th anniversary of the first ever Pride march in the USA, organisers are keen to hear from any performers interested in getting involved and sharing their talent to join in making this a fantastic celebration. Tickets will be available from silverpride.org.uk from Monday 6 July (prices TBC). Money raised will go to the Friends of Dorothy charity – a social enterprise with groups in Leeds and Manchester, to help continue its outreach with older people, combatting loneliness and isolation.
