On Fri 10 Oct, renowned dancer, choreographer and performer Mufutau Yusuf brings a powerful, unflinching meditation on ethnicity, identity and the shared experience of the Black diaspora to Lowry with his searing new duet, Impasse.

Billed as an effort to understand the perceptions and politics of the Black body in the contemporary Western imagination through breathtaking physicality, Impasse sees two performers confront stereotypes of blackness as crude, threatening or volatile through a series of charged encounters, dismantling misrepresentation and underrepresentation through movement to reveal an alternative conception built on tenderness, sensuality, intelligence, grace and love.

Following its critically acclaimed premiere at Dublin Dance Festival in May 2024 and showcases at major festivals in Edinburgh, Lyon, Lagos and London, this propulsive dance production arrives in Salford as part of a hotly anticipated international tour, delivering a defiant, driving spectacle that invokes African immigration while interrogating prejudiced narratives etched onto Black bodies across history.
