As Manchester gears up to commemorate the 200 year anniversary of the Peterloo massacre, artists from Manchester’s thriving hip-hop scene are coming together for a unique music project to reflect what this momentous occasion means to people in the city today. The result is DISRUPT, a showcase finale of a week long collaboration with the likes of Swing Ting’s Balraj Samrai, MC Fox and Lady Ice (pictured). Together, the artists have worked with Manchester’s most exciting young acts to explore how music can be used as a powerful tool for protest – past, present and future. The one-off showcase takes place at People’s History Museum on Thursday 11 July. There are limited free tickets for the performance available through the eventbrite link below so grab yours while you can. Brighter Sound is a creative music charity based in central Manchester, delivering projects and events to support young and emerging artists. For full details about the group of 12 regional MCs, vocalists, producers, poets, rappers, beat makers and instrumentalists chosen to take part in this performance, head over to the BrighterSounds website. The eclectic list of performers boasts a member of female rap collective HERCHESTER a classically trained composer and an act that has opened for the likes of Children of Zeus and The Mouse Outfit.
