This October, the Brno Philharmonic joins forces with virtuoso pianist Freddy Kempf for a night of pulsating rhythm and bombastic grandeur where jazz brilliance meets Czech symphonic tradition at The Bridgewater Hall.
A former BBC Young Musician of the Year, Kempf brings an irresistible energy to two storied American classics: Gershwin’s effervescent I Got Rhythm variations and Dave Brubeck’s Brandenburg Gate, a captivating fusion of Bach-inspired counterpoint and breezy jazz-inflected sophistication. For Brubeck’s piece, Kempf plays alongside a trio of leading Czech jazz musicians, promising a performance brimming with style and inventive flair.
Renowned for their luminous sound and expressive depth, the Brno Philharmonic reinforces its status as one of the finest Czech orchestras with sparkling renditions of homeland masterworks, opening the programme with Janáček’s vivid and folk-spirited Lachian Dances, before closing with Dvořák’s mesmerising Symphony No. 7 – a masterpiece of sweeping drama and lyricism, widely regarded as the composer’s finest composition.
