New York’s Brooklyn Brewery take over Common on Thursday 9 August as a send-off party for Manchester resident James Valm, soon to be the latest member of the Brooklyn Brewery team. The Brooklynites will be transforming the bar into a slice of New York for the night, with Brooklyn Lager and the moreish-sounding Mary’s Maple Porter on draft, and the Stop Making Sense DJs ‘cranking out the sounds and vibes of Brooklyn’. Common recently launched their latest exhibition, Pop and Roll by Nicholas Saunders, which is worth a peek while you’re there – a colourful celebration of pop heroes, ‘forgotten concert posters’ and supposedly ‘classic lyrics’ – including the much-underrated lyrical gold of Des’ree.
