Following the impressive displays from Chelsea Flower Show in London, Manchester locals are seizing the opportunity to show off their own gardening skills, as residents of Burnage and Levenshulme host their first Open Gardens in association with Bud Garden Centre. Featuring 19 gardens, 2 allotments, a community wildlife garden and a community orchard, this is one for keen gardeners to have a nose around their fellow green-thumbed neighbours’ designs. Then, once you’ve taken in enough greenery and inspiration, retreat to Bud Garden Centre’s botanical Pop-up Café to enjoy tunes from The Alstonia Wind Quintet and have a browse through gardening books from Chorlton Bookshop.

Sun 2 Jun, Bud Garden Centre, Omer Drive, Burnage, M19 2JN, Tel: 07505 403422, 11am-5pm, programmes £5 from Bud Garden Centre, Chorlton Bookshop, Trove Café, J&A Miller Newsagent and A Taste of Honey Delicatessen, www.budgarden.co.uk
