Promising to ‘redefine our expectations of what a musical can be’, Cake: The Marie Antoinette Playlist reimagines the story of the last queen of France with showstopping choreography and an ingenious pop score from Tue 28 Mar – Sat 1 Apr at The Lowry.

Combining 18th century France with an irresistible, all-killer, multi-genre song list featuring UK Garage, lush ballads and everything in between, Cake jubilantly recounts the story of a gossip-tainted Marie Antoinette who, following an already-controversial marriage to King Louis, is implicated in an scandalous plot to defraud the crown jewellers of a diamond necklace, igniting the spark of a nationwide revolution and the downfall of the ancien régime.

Billed as a ‘musical-come-gig-come-ballet’, Cake was originally commissioned by Paul Taylor (Heathers, In The Heights) and features ‘some of the most exciting figures in modern British theatre’, with a creative team including Olivier-winners Drew McOnie (In The Heights; Jesus Christ Superstar) and Morgan Lloyd Malcolm (Emilia – The Globe).

Casting will include Zizi Strallen (she/her) as Marie Antoinette, fresh from her magical run as Mary Poppins on the West End, with Renée Lamb (she/her) – Catherine of Aragon from the original cast of SIX – starring as Jeanne.
