New art supplies shop, Cass Art, is now open on Manchester’s Oldham Street. Drop in and be inspired by the world-class materials and tools on sale, as well as taking in a new solo exhibition, entitled ‘Portrait and the Urban Landscape’ by Chorley-based artist Liam Dickinson (from Thu 27 Apr). Dickinson was finalist on Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year 2017. Manchester’s Cass Art is the second store in the North West (following a Liverpool opening in 2014) from the independent, art supplies retailer. Set up by Mark Cass in 1984, the original art store opened in 1984 next to London’s National Gallery. There are now branches across the capital and around the UK. In line with other outlets, the Manchester store has been designed to be light and spacious with creativity in mind. The owners seek to support local artists through the in-house Art Space – but this is very much a store for everyone – so don’t worry if you just fancy a browse or a dabble.

Open now, Cass Art, 55-57 Oldham Street, Manchester M1 1JR. Tel: 0161 832 1044, times vary, exhibition  Thu 27 Apr – Sun 7 May during usual store opening times. www.cassart.co.uk
