Grab a giveaway bag of art supplies this weekend as new art store store Cass Art officially launches to the public. The UK’s leading art materials supplier has already established itself as a centre of craft and creativity on Oldham Street in the Northern Quarter. A special launch weekend event (Sat 6 & Sun 7 May) will festoon art lovers with freebies. The first 2,000 customers spending over £15 will get a bag of art materials worth over £50. It could be pens, paints, pastels or pads – Cass Art are keeping the surprise a secret. Every customer will get a free tote bag plus 10% off anything in the Manchester shop. Whether you’re splashing out on a high-end bamboo watercolour case or simply topping up on tracing paper, you’ll save valuable pennies. Expect tasty treats from popcorn snack supremos Propercorn and hot beverages from local luminaries, North Tea Power. This weekend will also be a last chance to see Liam Dickinson’s free exhibition ‘Portrait and the Urban Landscape’ – the Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year finalist’s work can be found on the lower ground floor – read our exhibition preview here. Cass Art, whose first shop opened next to the National Gallery in 1984, now has a dozen independently-owned stores across the UK.
