There is little that Chain and the Gang doesn’t pull out – punk rock, soul, 60s doo wop, bit of garage groove – every song is a foray into a concoction of genres. Cult frontman Ivan Svenonius (of Nation of Ulysses, the Make-Up and Weird War fame) is a magnetic and devoted character, throwing himself into his preacher persona with anti-populist and gospel lyrics offset by eccentric Jagger moves. The crooning female vocals add a deeper, softer layer to Ivan’s veracity, while James Canty (Nation of Ulysses) on guitar is an essential ingredient to this band’s joyful dynamism. Catch them while you can. At this price, you’ve no excuse not to.
