Featuring original songs and ‘emotionally rewarding, envisioning and compelling’ writing from one of Britain’s best emerging playwrights, Cheeky Little Brown explores queerness, the heartbreak of doomed friendships, the agony of closure and growing into yourself as a young black woman in London at The Lowry on Fri 20 and Sat 21 Oct.

Written by Papatango Prize winner Nkenna Akunna (Some of Us Exist in the Future), Cheeky Little Brown follows Lady, a quick-witted, headstrong Londoner who is set to meet up with her half-estranged best mate, Gemma, for the first time in six months at the latter’s birthday party.

Equal parts soaring musical, failed night out and stirring exploration of heartbreak, queerness and home, the new production from Tiata Fahodzi, Belgrade Theatre and Bristol Old Vic offers a fresh coming-of-age story which charts a profoundly meaningful friendship between two black women, each navigating their own conflicting and deeply personal odyssey of self-acceptance.
