Over the past few summers, Chester Zoo has cornered the market in terrifying, life-like animatronics. Dinosaurs were the theme for 2011 and 2012, scaring and delighting vistors in equal measure. 2013’s summer exhibit has moved to the modern day, but super-sized it – putting 13 giant, robotic versions of everyday (and not-so-everyday) bugs on display. For those who won’t be able to get down to the zoo to see the full set, they’re bringing one to Spinningfields to terrifying and/or delight the crowds for the day. If you’re squeamish, we’d probably advise staying away, regardless of the fact it’s not actually real – we don’t want to feel responsible for any potential dreams of being attacked by a man-sized bumblebee.
