This July sees HOME present the world premiere of ‘The Fishermen’ before it travels up for a month at the Edinburgh Festival followed by a national tour. Set in a small Nigerian town, the story follows two brothers who fish at a forbidden river until the prophecy of a madman changes the course of their future, Chigozie Obioma’s 2015 novel was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize and is hailed as ‘a powerful allegory of brotherhood’.
Michael Ajao plays Ben, and will have been spotted previously in ‘Attack The Block’ whilst Obembe is played by Valentine Olukoga, who has appeared in ITV’s ‘Unforgotten’.
Regarded as one of Africa’s major new literary voices, Obioma’s novel should provide itself a strong backing for the latest production from Nottingham’s New Perspectives theatre group.
