I hope you enjoyed the New Year celebrations because there’ll be some more coming along pretty soon. In early February, there will be a four-day festival to welcome in the Year of the Monkey. To launch the festival, ‘Parkour Monkey Runners’ will be turning the city centre into a jungle gym as they show of their street running stunts and dance choreography. Throughout the festival, New Cathedral Street will be host to an Asian street food market featuring some of the city’s most popular vendors. The festival’s main hub is over in St. Ann’s Square, where there will be more food stalls, a live music stage, and light shows in the evenings. In the Northern Quarter, the Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art is launching a major new exhibition. The celebrations conclude on the Sunday with the hugely popular street parade. A giant dragon will lead the way from Albert Square to Chinatown, accompanied by dancers, musicians, and acrobats. The grand finale will be a spectacular fireworks display.
