On Thu 1 May, Manchester Jewish Museum stages an uplifting one-woman play which celebrates the remarkable yet forgotten true story of trade union leader and inspirational figure, Sara Wesker.
Taking place on International Workers’ Day, Blue Fire theatre’s Chopped Liver and Unions invites audiences to discover Sara’s pivotal impact on the working class movement.
From leading the singing strikers of 1928 and fighting for East End workers to taking to the barricades of Cable Street to face down Oswald Mosley and his cadre of fascists, the unsung icon of principle, fire and dauntless resolve devoted her life to the advancement of workers’ rights and the trade union movement.
Having captivated audiences from New York to Edinburgh, this acclaimed OffFest-nominated production chronicles Sara’s extraordinary life and efforts while considering both the legacy and human cost of a life spent struggling for justice.
The past is littered with those who shook the world, only to be all but erased from its pages.
