Next month, the Chorlton Film Institute is hosting a very special event: a screening of the recent British drama Set Fire to the Stars. The film will be introduced by its writer and co-star Celyn Jones, along with producer Andy Evans. Set in the 1950s, this biographical movie centres on the aspiring American poet John M. Brinnin, played by Elijah Wood. Brinnin invites his idol Dylan Thomas (Celyn Jones) to New York to give readings of his works. However, not everything goes to plan, and he embarks on a week-long retreat to help save Thomas from his alcoholism. The film also stars Kelly Reilly, Shirley Henderson and Kevin Eldon. The Film Institute has been around since 2006, offering its own somewhat refined take on ‘guerrilla cinema’. Recent screenings have included Nightcrawler, Frank and Under the Skin.
