New group the Partisan Collective is launching a temporary creative space in the city centre. The group want this to be a place for culture, political activism and DIY art. To mark this launch, they are hosting City of Queer Hope, a day-long event in support of LGBT+ politics in Manchester. The day begins with a panel discussion on the role of art and culture in queer political life. This will be followed by a screening of the documentary Screaming Queens, which is about the transgender women who fought against police harassment in 1960s’ San Francisco. The evening’s entertainment will be Homerpalooza, a Simpsons-themed disco. Expect songs from the show, pop-up performances, burlesque and drag. The suggested donation for the event is £2 – £10, depending on your income. All proceeds will go towards paying the performers and also the establishment of a more permanent creative space. There will also be a separate after party at Hidden’s Homo Electric night.
