Jrocc is one of those DJs who lives and breathes the records he plays – one of the world’s greats, nestling among the likes of Mr Thing, Cut Chemist and Jazzy Jeff. And being able to catch him in Manchester is all too rare a joy. Joshua Brooks is the place to be this Saturday then, and the perfect basement venue for a night of music to dance to, based on the all-encompassing, multi-genre-loving, vintage attitude of hip-hop from the Stones Throw veteran. Expect disco, minimal wave, funk, rap, electronica, beats, African and Latin vibes and beyond. Whether you’re familiar with him as one third of the live incarnation of Dilla and Madlib’s Jaylib, his recent album Some Cold Rock Stuf, or as one of the co-founders of the Beat Junkies, catch him ahead of the release of his new album with MED under the ‘Axel F’ pseudonym. Stepping up to the warm-up challenge are two of Manchester’s proper finest, Jon K and Jonny Dub of Hoya Hoya. They’re joined by Leeds all-rounders MLM and TY Fitz.
