Art gets a two-wheeled twist this weekend as the Rochdale Pioneers Museum unveils a new exhibition and installation artwork created from recycled bicycle parts. The kinetic sculpture will be displayed alongside the museum’s new Co-operation on Wheels exhibition to celebrate the Tour de France’s route through the Rochdale borough later this year. The exhibition explores how bikes were used by the co-operative societies and how a new wave of co-operatives are keeping its link with cycling alive. Inspired by the themes of cycling and co-operation, the sculpture running alongside it has been designed by Sparth Youth Club and junk sculptor Richard Dawson and Saturday’s launch will give visitors to participate in the creation. The final artwork will then be displayed at the museum’s Tour de France Warm Up event on Saturday 28 May. Exhibition continues until Saturday 25 October.

Opens Sat 10 May, Rochdale Pioneers Museum, Toad Lane, Rochdale, OL12 0NU. 11am – 3pm, FREE, rochdalepioneersmuseum.coop
