Benny Boot | The Railway, Didsbury | Mon 10 Aug | 7.30pm | £5
Benny Boot’s certainly not a household name, but he’s making solid inroads. Recently, he’s been on One Night Stand on Channel Dave and turned up in American living rooms as a finalist in the Last Comic Standing TV show. This week, he comes to the teeny tiny back room of the Railway in Didsbury courtesy of Tony Basnett’s Trap Door Comedy Club. Support comes from ace musical comic Ruth Cockburn.

Diane Morgan (pictured) | Pub/Zoo | Tue 11 Aug | 7pm | £5
After their long list of stellar lineups in the lead up to the Fringe, you could forgive Pub/Zoo’s XS Malarkey for phoning this one in – but it’s reassuring to see that they haven’t done this at all. You may recognise Diane Morgan as her alter ego Philomena Cunk, the dense and intense talking head character that made the past couple of series of Charlie Brooker’s Weekly Wipe. This aside, she’s got a decade of stand up under her belt and she’s a much sought-after circuit act who you’d be crazy to miss for a fiver. Also treading the boards at XS are James Cook, Robin Boot and Graham Goring – who also wrote the brilliant video game Lego City Undercover, which you’ve never played because you don’t own a WiiU.

Kiwi comic Christmas is another face you might recognise, popping up regularly as an actual talking head on various shows.
