Daliso Chaponda | The Pub/Zoo | Tue 17 Mar | 7.30pm | £5/£3
Manchester’s best comedy club XS Malarkey was recently named best venue in the North at the annual Chortle awards, making it 7,000 wins in a row for Toby Hadoke’s much-loved club. This week it once more mixes the city’s brightest new acts with its more established headliners: Daliso Chaponda tops the show, with support from Matt Ewins, David Stanier and Jack Evans. All ably compered by Hadoke, there’s a reason why it keeps winning awards.

Patrick Monahan | The Lowry | Wed 18 Mar | 8pm | £13
Everyone’s favourite Irish/Iranian Teesider is back after another sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe. One of the UK’s hardest working comics, with seemingly inexhaustible levels of energy, Monahan is a regular MC and headliner at clubs all over the British Isles. This familiarisation with the club scene makes Monahan a much more intimate performer when he does larger venue shows. Expect a lot of audience interaction and fast-paced gaggery.

Comedy Balloon | The Ape & Apple | Wed 18 Mar | 8pm | FREE
The oldest free comedy show in the city keeps its freshness by the sheer volume of acts that pass through its doors. New acts looking to get more time on stage, and more established acts looking to try out new material, all tread the boards above The Ape & Apple on John Dalton Street – and this month sees Quippodrome’s Edy Hurst MC proceedings with another bumper bill of comics from Manchester and the surrounding areas.

Dylan Moran (pictured) | Opera House | Thu 19 Mar | 8pm | £25.90 – £27.90
Having just played a sell out show at The Lowry on Sunday, there’s a second chance to see Ireland’s greatest misanthrope as Dylan Moran takes over the more spacious and vertigo sufferers’ nightmare that is the Opera House. This is Moran’s first stand-up tour for four years and reviews have been glowing, stating that Moran has lost none of his verve for dissatisfaction. There are but a handful of tickets left so get them soon.
