Gein’s Family Giftshop | Kosmonaut | Mon 1 Aug | 8pm | FREE
As is often the case, when August rolls around there’s the mass migration of funny folk to Edinburgh for the whole month – and thusly comedy nights become relatively thin on the ground (apart from the weekend clubs). But there’s always time for one last preview. Step forward then Gein’s Family Giftshop who are using their monthly slot in the Kosmonaut basement to give group member James Meehan (Jim, the self described ‘boss’ in Gein’s) a chance to show his debut hour, ‘Class Act’, before the hellscape that is the Fringe. There will also be sketches new and old from Gein’s and the best MC in the North West Kiri Pritchard-McLean will guide you through the evening.

Brendon Burns & Colt Cabana | FabCafe | Tue 2 Aug | 8pm | £10
Wrestling and comedy go together like Mr Socko and someone’s gullet – so it follows that one of comedy’s finest provocateurs in Brendon Burns and wrestler/podcaster Colt Cabana make one of the most ridiculously funny show in commentating over bad wrestling videos. A hit at the Fringe for the past four years, it’s now coming to Fab Café for one night only, Burns and Cabana’s easy chemistry and hard shots make it a great evening for wrestling fans and non-wrestling fans alike.

Josie Long (pictured) | Gorilla | Sat 6 Aug | 7pm | £12/£10
After selling out her preview show (alongside Spencer Jones) last week, Josie Long is such a big fan of Group Therapy she’s back to host their monthly show at Gorilla. Alongside Long’s whimsical MCing will be 2012 winner of Best Newcomer at the Fringe and star of ‘Reeves & Mortimer’s House of Fools’, Daniel Simonsen, and self-described ‘apologetic posh boy’ Ivo Graham, a blisteringly smart Eton and Oxford alumnus with baby face and wizened brain. If you’re not able to head up to Scotland’s capital this year then this is as good a showcase as you’ll find. UPDATE: Ivo Graham can’t make it now, but David Trent has stepped in.
