Gein’s Family Gift Shop Volume 1 | The Lowry | Fri 19 Sep | 8pm | £10
This is your last chance to see the first volume of what is hopefully a 50-volume epic of Gein’s Family Giftshop sketches, as the quartet look to retire their first Edinburgh Fringe show. It’s also your last chance to see them before they get too big for such stages, and tell your friends you saw them back when. Nominated for Best Newcomer at the Fringem Gein’s’ show is fast paced, filthy and damn funny. Go see it and let us tell you we told you so.

James Acaster (pictured) | The Lowry | Sun 21 Sep | 8pm | £11
His past three shows at the Fringe have been nominated for the Best Show Award but, though he hasn’t won any of them (isn’t it enough just to be nominated), he has won over the comedy community at large. With his whimsical musings on the minutiae of modern life, Acaster has set his stall out as one of the best comics on the UK scene.

Axis of Awesome | Academy 2 | Mon 22 Sep | 7.30pm | £16.50
For those familiar with a little-known vlogging site called youtubes, you should already be aware of Axis of Awesome. The hard rocking Australian’s ‘4 Chord Song’ has received over a 30 million views on the site. Musical comedy is often a minefield as either the music or the comedy suffers from the marriage of styles but, like their Oceanic friends Flight of the Conchords, Axis of Awesome have great musical talent and hilarious lyrics. It’s especially well captured in their rallying cry against Game of Thrones ‘fans’.

Vikki Stone | The Lowry | Wed 24 Sep | 8pm | £11
A third inclusion for The Lowry as it welcomes the touring Edinburgh shows – and a second mention of a genuinely funny and talented musical comedy act. Vikki Stone made her name with a rather salacious song about everyone’s favourite silver-haired fox Phillip Schofield, which was followed up with a sexy science ditty about Professor Brian Cox, such is Stone’s musical ability that she can turn a song about sexing a celebrity into a power balladic wonder. In her new show, Instrumental, she shows of the true range of her talents, and of her comedic chops.
