Lancashire Hotpots (pictured) | The Lowry, Quays | Fri 11 Jul | 9pm | £16
If you’ve ever been to a festival and, while maybe a little intoxicated, thought you dreamed about a band of five men in bright waistcoats and flat caps singing songs about having a chippy tea or lamenting their friend ‘turning emo’, we’re here to tell you it wasn’t some kind of beautiful acid trip. It was the Lancashire Hotpots – and they’re playing The Lowry on Friday night. You should go and sing along. It’s just as good as when you’re in the fields. And the toilets are way nicer.

Kinky Boot Institute | King’s Arms, Salford | Sat 12 Jul | 7.30pm | £4
The Greater Manchester Fringe Festival is now in its third week of providing the newest and brightest of the North West’s comedy scene in the upstairs room of the King’s Arms. This time sketch act The kinky Boot Institute is taking over and promises to have you out to possibly watch more comedy as Brazil attempt to defend again in the third place match at the World Cup. Satire. The KBI, as no one calls it, is made up of comedy partners Lewis Charlesworth and Rosie Phillips. Both energetic and entertaining stand-alone stand-ups, they up the ante when it comes to their high NRG sketchplay.

New Stuff ft. Toby Hadoke | The Comedy Store | Sun 13 Jul | 7.30pm | £3
If you can’t stand the idea of yet another football match then worry not. It’s the last one tonight! For a month or so. So avoid another kicking event by watching  Toby Hadoke and his pals try out some new bits. No doubt with one eye on the looming start date of the Fringe, Hadoke’s night is a chance for the best of the North West to flex their brand spankingest material in front of a lovely crowd. A lovely crowd of non-football fans. Sounds delightful.

Jay Hampson | Eagle Inn, Salford | Tue 15 Jul | 7.30pm | £3
A new addition this one: Tony Basnett takes his trapdoor comedy stable all the way from Didsbury to Salford. Quite the culture shock, we’re sure, but the Eagle Inn (one of the many great pubs run by the good folk behind The Castle) is a great venue for comedy, tucked away behind the Abito building just off Trinity Way. To couple with that Basnett has arranged a stellar line-up for his first spread at the Eagle. Beat The Frog World Series winner of 2013 Jay Hampson headlines, with support from the imaginative and endearing Pete Phillipson and up and comer/Pringles enthusiast Brennan Reece. With Basnett at the helm, lets hope the Eagle dares to put on more shows like this.

IT Rock’N’Roll | The Castle | Tue 15 Jul | 8pm | FREE
It’s not everyday that a comedy show offers up cucumber sandwiches as a refreshment, but then it’s not everyday that a comedy show combines the seemingly disparate disciplines of computer programming and rock ‘n’roll. Foxdog Studios is just the pair to do it as it takes one last whack at their Edinburgh Fringe show before disappearing in a cloud of smoke. Joined by top bodybuilder Jayne Edwards, it’s a great chance to see some bizarre comedy at the low low price of absolute zero.
