Hats Off To Laurel & Hardy | King’s Arms | Sat 23 & Sun 24 Aug | 7.30pm | £8
Those brave souls who have endured the literal and metaphysical battering they have gotten from the steep gradients and harsh critics of Edinburgh respectively return this weekend – and if they get back in time it might be worth them checking out this play about the lives of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. A glimpse at what the circuit used to be like tinged with nostalgia and heartache, the tale of the comedy duo is sure to make you laugh and may have the ability to bring you to tears as well.

Quippopotamus | Fuel, Withington | Sun 24 Aug | 8pm | FREE
The very day that the Fringe finishes for another year is the day Fuel’s Quippo returns; coincidence? Almost definitely. But it’s a nice opener for the return of comedy nights in the city with damn fine line-ups after the migration/hibernation of acts through August. Guest compere Edy Hurst introduces a who’s who of Manchester’s more alternative comedians (‘alternative to what!?’) with everyone’s favourite bodybuilder Jayne Edwards, Robin Thicke’s bastard son Jon Whiteley and Ashton-under-Lyne’s number one export Liam Pickford taking to the first floor of Fuel.

Neil Hamburger | The Pub/Zoo | Mon 25 Aug | 7pm | £10/£8
Not for the faint of heart, or the literal of mind, America’s funnyman Neil Hamburger arrives at XS Malarkey’s home for a one-off Group Therapy that is sure to shock and awe in equal amount. Fans of Tim & Eric will be aware of his sweaty awfulness and will be queuing around the block to soak it up (figuratively). The only show outside of his brief Edinburgh run and a couple of London shows, this is one not to be missed. Read our full preview here.

David Longley (pictured) | The Pub/Zoo | Tue 26 Aug | 7.30pm | £5/£3
Intentionally offensive and impeccably intelligent acts seem to be the order of the week at The Pub/Zoo as Manchester institution XS Malarkey plays host to the always-incendiary David Longley. A great mind clothed in filth and mayhem, Longley delivers witty insights into the world around him. He’s confident and forthright performer who can aim to lose a room only to win it back with apparent ease. Toby Hadoke serves as MC, with support from Andy Storey and Rebecca Fearnley.
