Margaret Cho | The Lowry | Thu 30 Nov | 8pm | £28.50
Taking on her Korean heritage that has formed the bulk of her career and her new found sobriety, US stand up Margaret Cho brings her latest show ‘Fresh Off The Bloat’. The title is both a pun on the popular sitcom and a reference to Cho’s grandmother who says the comedian looked as bloated as a corpse left in the lake a couple of days. Move over Jewish grandmothers, you’ve got nothing on the Koreans when it comes to savage put downs. In mining her family for comedy gold she also looks within herself after a long battle with drink, drugs and suicide that she has thankfully come out the winner. Filthy, heart felt and very funny.

All signs you can finally celebrate Christmas, the latter of which being certainly the most joyous as Stockport’s favourite housewife takes her festive feel good show to The Lowry for a night of fun and games and excellent down to earth humour. Go and get in a Christmassy mood with the funnest Auntie in town.

Giggle Aid | The Frog & Bucket | Sun 3 Dec | 7.45pm | £12
Paul Sinha and Tez Ilyas headline a bumper bill of great comedy for a great cause as a host of top stand ups come together to raise money for the Red Cross. Alongside Ilyas and Sinha you’ll find Norman Lovett (perhaps best known as Holly from Red Dwarf), the musical stylings of Christian Reilly, the big man with a big mouth in Martin Mor, Luke Benson and Sully Sullivan. A lovely way to round out the week with some laughs.
