Manc artist Jim Medway will be teaching newcomers how to draw their own cartoon characters this weekend as part of events associated with the  David Shrigley exhibition. Famous for his depictions of Manchester life using cat people – people with remarkably expressive cat heads – Medway will use a combination of individual and group exercises to teach future comic book artists how to draw characters and bring them to life. The basic elements of sequential art will be explored, from composing panels to depicting emotion, action and situation. For those worried that their skills might not match their enthusiasm, the emphasis of the workshops will be on clarity and communication rather than technical finesse.
