Tens of thousands of visitors are likely to be heading to Castlefield this month, for the area’s Food Festival. For four there will be a cornucopia of vendors days in Castlefield Bowl, selling street food and local produce. It’s not just about the scran; there will also be real ales, craft gin, and cocktails. At a demonstration kitchen, some of the region’s best chefs will demonstrate their skills, and take part in cook-off challenges. The festival is free to enter, but there are some paid, ticketed events. ‘Tea-Sup’ is a hands-on campfire cooking experience, hosted by celebrity chef Rob Owen Brown, where you can learn how to make flatbread and fish dishes over an open fire. There will also be a ‘Gin Ahoy’, a masterclass aboard the Dry Barge bar. You can find about making and bottling gin whilst having a canal tour of the area.
