Remember a few years ago when doomsayers threatened that one of the greatest physics experiments of recent years, the Large Hadron Collider, would cause the end of the world? Well now you can find out what it was really all about as the Collider is being documented in a new exhibition coming to MOSI. Originally exhibited in the Science Museum in London, Collider is a unique behind-the-scenes tour of Geneva’s CERN particle physics lab that captures the wonder and importance of the experiment, used by scientists and engineers around the world to learn more about the building blocks that make up the Universe. Developed by an award-winning team, including Oliver Award winners Michael Wynne (The Priory) and Finn Ross (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time), the exhibition provides an exciting interactive experience that blends theatre, video and sound art, with exclusive access to real artefacts such as a part of one of the magnets that steer the particle beam. Also featuring a cameo from Brian Cox, MOSI is the first stop of an international tour of Collider that aims to brings physics to the public.
