Returning in April is the Oldham Bookmark Festival, a week-long celebration of literature in the town. This year’s headliner is Roger McGough (pictured), who has been one of the country’s best-loved poets for over 40 years. He will be discussing his new collection As Far As I Know at the Coliseum Theatre. Also appearing is Rachel Abbott, a former Oldham resident who sold over a million copies of her self-published books. Rachel will be talking about her career and giving insight into her creative process. Steve Hanley, the bass player with The Fall, will be discussing his recent music memoir The Big Midweek, which was lauded by the Guardian and the NME. And for the kids, CBeebies’ own celebrity gardener Mr Bloom will be giving two performances.
