A new exhibition opening later this month at The Portico Library will present artworks on the theme of memory. Recollection features pieces by five artists from the North West, alongside books from the Library’s own collection. The aim is to explore the nature of memory and how it shapes our lives. Among those contributing is Stacey Coughlin, an artist and researcher who works with people in residential care homes, using her sculptures to stimulate conversations and reminiscences. Also showcased is Maggie Hargreaves, a member of Bolton’s Neo Artists, and winner of the John Ruskin Prize for Drawing in 2014. In August, there will be a workshop with another contributing artist, Saima Rasheed. A nominee for the Victoria & Albert’s prestigious Jameel Prize, Saima creates traditional Indo-Persian miniature paintings with contemporary subjects. The exhibition is part of a programme of workshops and events that were created to be accessible for people with dementia and their carers.
