Bella Union’s French party kids Concrete Knives hit the Castle this Friday with their recent debut album, Be Your Own King. Playfully experimental and artistic, the record exudes a youthful charm that is brimming with ideas and adventurous explorations of sound. The gig won’t be much different. There are definite genre influences flowing through the veins of the band (Americana and folk among them), but everything they produce appears to be a determined battle cry for individuality and experimentation. Their synthy, rhythmic songs stomp out the band’s rebellious and fierce attitude to life, succinctly summed up in the album’s title. Full of attitude, they are a delight to watch as well as listen to. Upbeat, exciting, and aesthetically pleasing – it promises to be a great way to kickstart your weekend.
