Back in 2018, Contact Theatre Manchester closed its doors to embark on a £6.75million refurbishment construction project aimed at transforming their Oxford Road space for a new generation of audiences. Two years and a handful of pop-up performances at a variety of ad-hoc spaces across the city later and Contact has finally regained the keys from contractors and unveiled details of their new re-opening date. Theatre fans will be able to visit the space once more from September 2020 for socially distanced participation and creative activities, with full performances due to return in early 2021. Following on from their regeneration project, the space will now boast a brand new recording studio, rehearsal and performance spaces and a dedicated arts and healtharea – the first of its kind in any UK theatre. Continuing with their youth-focused ethos, the venue’s new look was informed by Con:Struct – a team of young people who were fully involved in the project from day one. In the meantime, Contact have teased details of a housewarming party later this year to celebrate their new look. We’ll post more news on this as its revealed.
