Coinciding with its Refract:18 festival, Waterside’s Lauriston Gallery and other spaces will be showing the work of emerging ceramic artists Grace Igoe and Katie Nelson, newly commissioned by the Creative Industries Trafford to create a series of art installations. Bringing together ceramic pieces, audio installations and augmented reality pieces, Re:Cast explores the themes of body image and mental health through the two Manchester School of Art graduates’ unique individual practices. Manchester-based Katie combines casting techniques with graphic imagery to produce unsettling pieces which subvert understanding and expectations, while Sale-based Grace’s work uses the idea of fragmentation and the handling of delicate art to communicate awareness about autism. You can find out more about this contemporary programme at one of two informal lunchtime talks (Mon 16 & Fri 27 Jul, 12.30pm, free, but booking required), when the pair will explain their inspirations and give a guided tour of the striking exhibition.
