Black Notes from the Deep is a collaboration between acclaimed jazz musician Courtney Pine and UK soul star Omar, offering the chance to see them perform original material for the first time ever on a just announced five-date tour. The full-length album was released last year on Freestyle Records, teaming Omar’s vocal talents (which he’s previously showcased alongside the likes of Stevie Wonder and Carleen Anderson) with Courtney Pine’s first return to the tenor saxophone in a decade. As well as performing some of the pieces from Black Notes from the Deep, the pair will join forces to revisit their individual back catalogues, and all this with a full band. Kicking the tour off with a two-night residency at Band on the Wall, Courtney and Omar will then take the project across the UK: Leeds Brudenell Social Club (Mon 10 Dec, tickets), Kendal Brewery Arts Centre (Tue 11 Dec, tickets) and Glasgow Òran Mór (Wed 12 Dec, tickets).
Sat 8 – Sun 9 Dec, Band On The Wall, 25 Swan Street, Manchester, M4 5JZ, Tel: 0161 834 1786, 7pm, £25, www.bandonthewall.org
