Returning this month is the Create Salford Festival: a showcase of work by final year students from Salford University’s School of Arts and Media. Following a formal opening next Wednesday by the poet and novelist Jackie Kay, Salford’s MediaCity and Allerton campuses will be host to exhibitions with many different themes, from graphic design to photography and video games. There will also be live performances including theatre, dance, comedy and poetry. Other highlights include a runway show hosted by fashion graduates, which will present new sartorial designs both for the public and also industry professionals. The MediaCity building will also feature screening rooms and audio dens, where visitors can experience student-produced dramas, documentaries and music. Additionally, there will be a performance taking place at Manchester Cathedral, is the European premiere of composer Nancy Galbraith’s take on the St Matthew Passion, to be performed by both students and staff members. This year’s festival is spread across campus, but next year they’ll be setting up home at the university’s new Adelphi building (pictured).
