On Thu 20 Jun, the beloved Ancoats literary emporium O! Peste Destroyed welcomes writer, filmmaker and boundless psychogeographer Iain Sinclair for a captivating exploration of his latest work with a Q&A alongside author and filmmaker Austin Collings.

Over the course of a forty-year career, Iain Sinclair has occupied his own artistic dimension with a formless, mystifying oeuvre which blends travel writing, essays, history, biography, geography, fiction and obscure, encyclopaedic knowledge. His latest work, Pariah Genius, seeks to elucidate the achingly morose yet staggeringly innovative photography of John Deakin, whose visceral portraits of Soho bohemians like Francis Bacon, Dylan Thomas and others recalibrated the course of photographic history.

Beneath Sinclair’s singular gaze, Deakins’ catalogue unfurls into a tapestry of anxieties about how we represent the past, and renders a wholly unique vision of a fabled figure who was maligned and exalted in equal measure throughout his strange and troubled life.

Throughout the evening, free food and sublime flavours will be provided by upcoming chef Barney Khan, aka One-Man Deliveroo.

Entry to Peste’s latest guest event is free, but a link to pre-purchase Pariah Genius with a seat reservation is coming soon.
