In the 1970s while Hollywood was exploiting the tales of Italians striving in America with the Godfather and Godfather Part 2, over in Italy they were creating their own kind of exploitation cinema. The Italian police films of the late 1970s and early 1980s always had a backdrop of mafia bosses, spectacular car chases and down and dirty violence. Taking more inspiration from Frank Bullit and Dirty Harry than the Corleones, this wave of cinema has inspired a documentary entitled ‘Eurocrime! The Italian Cop and GangsterFilms that Ruled the 70s’. Moston’s A Small Cinema will be showing this labour of love from Mike Malloy alongside two classics of the genre The Italian Connection (La Mala Ordina) and Rome Armed To The Teeth (Roma A Mano Armata). An explosive day out at the cinema.
