Despite the fact that the Curry Mile is so central to the city’s heritage, it’s sometimes a little difficult to get a decent Indian meal in the centre of Manchester. This ‘n’ That have soldiered on as a cult favourite with their rice and three meal deal, but outside that it’s a little dry. Penthouse NQ won’t be cooking up dosas forever, but for one night it offers an alternative to low-quality takeaway tikkas with it’s Curry Night. Being held as a fundraiser to help support all the excellent work it does as a space for local artists, the deal for this vegan-friendly night is £10 all-in, which covers an awful lot. Cooked by Penthouse NQ’s own expert chef Rosanne Robertson, the starters are Poppadums & Pickles, Onion Bhajis and Spinach Pakoras; the choice of mains is Saag Aloo (potato and spinach), Daal Makhani (a cream based urad daal and kidney bean dish) and Penthouse Chole (spicy tomato and chickpea); dessert is a coconut and spinach delight with masala chai. Perhaps best of all is the fact that it’s BYOB and there will be killer darts, backed by live music from Techno Lezbians. You wouldn’t get that at Shere Khan.

Tue 9 Jul, NQ Penthouse, Hilton House, Hilton Street, Northern Quarter, M1 1EH, 7pm, £10, booking essential, contact thepenthousenq@gmail.com with an email entitled SPICE UP YOUR LIFE (places limited), http://thepenthousenq.com/
