Have you ever seen something fascinating but a bit dangerous on YouTube, wanted to have a go, but thought better of it? Well, Doodlebug is your inner Evel Knievel. Watching a video of wood being electrocuted was the catalyst to what Doodlebug is today, creating affordable one-of-a-kind customised guitars that have the wrath of the elements searing through its bodywork. After returning from teaching English abroad he wanted to make a living off his passion for guitars, and heard through the grapevine that Affleck’s Palace was a haven for independent traders. The decision was almost instant once he paid the creative hub a visit. He began customising guitars with licks of paint and driving nails into the body. Now, he uses microwave coils and watches electricity eat through the wood (and slightly less dangerously, a wood burning tool for more precise pieces). Given the nature of material used, results can vary – which makes these unique creations all the more individual and exciting. The guitar pictured is Wood Burn Fossil (£200), while other options include a lightening strike Telecaster (£175), and a lightening strike (£200). Check out the stores social media for more – Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Or pop along to a free party taking place on Afflecks 3rd Floor on Saturday 21 July from 10am-6pm, with giveaways, discounts, goodie bags and more – as well as the chance to check out 15 independent retailers including Stag and Raven art and lifestyle store and Egoiste Gallery.
