Revered musician Vini Reilly is heading to the grand surroundings of Manchester Town Hall next month for an exclusive onstage interview with renowned DJ Dave Haslam. After making his name in post-punk group Durutti Column and becoming Factory Records’ first signing, Reilly has gone on to work with Morissey, John Cooper Clarke and Holly Johnson, being described by Red Hot Chili Peppers’ John Frusciante as ‘the best guitarist in the world’. In 2010, he suffered a stroke in which he lost some feeling in his left hand, affecting his recording career somewhat. As a result, just last month his nephew called on fans for donations after a series of strokes left him in debt, unable to support himself until he was granted disability allowance. As part of ‘Thirty One Songs’ collection, which he features on, Haslam’s regular Close Up series sees Reilly get back in touch with his fans, in an exclusive insight into the life of this Manchester musical legend. The pair will be joined by special guest John Bramwell (from I Am Kloot), while JP Cooper will play acoustically too. Reilly will also perform an unreleased song – his first live outing in over 18 months. All profits go to CALM.
