Next Sunday is Ordsall Hall’s Family Garden Party, and it will feature an event that is surely a world first: a Jelly Wanging Championship. For those confused, ‘wang’ (at least in this instance), means ‘to throw’. The aim is to propel the gelatinous foodstuff as far as possible, and in the most creative way possible. Entry is free, but contenders will have to supply their own jelly. The garden party will also feature many other things to amuse the kiddies, including: a climbing wall, arts and crafts, and a bouncy castle. Meanwhile, grownups can enjoy the Hall’s much-celebrated gardens and also a falconry display. Food will be laid on in the form hog roast, followed by strawberries and cream. Beer will come courtesy of local brewery ‘First Chop’. There’s also Pimm’s if you fancy yourself a little more refined. Be sure to enter the raffle for the very Salfordian top prize which is a year’s supply of pies.
