It doesn’t take much to realise that Manchester harbours a lot of creativity, and to mark its diverse and artsy glory the city welcomes new week-long creative festival Design Manchester. The festival explores the theme of longevity through a range of talks, workshops and events, set to feed hungry and imaginative minds with plenty of art, design, illustration, animation and interactivity. There’s a lot on, including a photography exhibition at Kosmonaut involving work we mentioned a few months back, as well as a free session for students, graduates and under 24s with industry-led talks and workshops on the theme of technology. At the heart of the festival are the events falling on Thu 31 Oct, which features an impressive line-up of speakers such as Design Week editor Angus Montgomery, London-based creative Kate Moross, and a Q&A hosted by festival curator and ambassador Malcolm Garrett. Three highlights include a FREE talk about intellectual property rights, Tue 29 Oct, Kosmonaut, 6-9pm, FREE, tickets; Kate Moross talk as part of Design Manchester 2013 lectures and a half-day long centre piece programme Thu 31 Oct, The Town Hall, 11am-6pm, £35/£25, tickets; and elements of last year’s 10×10 exhibition showcasing the finest in regional design at Kosmonaut.
