Dip into zines at Victoria Baths’ third annual self-publishing bash, which sees the historic building filled with work by self-publishers from all over the north. Zine-makers and self-publishing collectives from Manchester, Salford, Bradford, Leeds and Preston are attending to show off their diverse and colourful work, with visitors’ browsing soundtracked by live choir performances by the Ordsall Acapella Singers. For a new take on the possibilities of self-publishing, make sure you go on Manchester illustrator and musician David Carden’s musical tour of the building (2pm). Elsewhere, John Mather will talk about his recently self-published labour of love, a Pictorial Guide to Greater Manchester’s Public Swimming Pools (2.30pm), which features an homage to all of Greater Manchester’s 50-odd swimming baths, plus various other self-publishers will read from their work throughout the day. If all this inspires you to make your own, the appropriately named artists’ collective Pool Arts are inviting visitors to help to produce a new edition of VB zine The Vicky on the day, using team effort, collage, lino printing and on-the-spot reportage from the fair to compile articles about why public wash baths should be making a comeback. Continuing the DIY ethos will be two film screenings (1pm and 3pm) of recent documentary Helpyourself Manchester, which tells the story of Manchester’s unsung music promoters, accompanied by an exhibition of original flyers from gigs featured in the film. There’s even the chance to take a ‘behind the scenes’ tour of the beautiful building itself (2.30pm).
