The Heliocentrics are in a constant state of metamorphosis, their musicality sharpened by working with a variety of talents. Collaboratons over the years with the likes of Ethiopian master Mulatu Astake, DJ Shadow, Madlib, Oriental jazz pioneer Lloyd Miller and the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble have all contributed to the magnum opus that is new album 13 Degrees of Reality, out on Stones Throw’s sister label Now Again (they also have a more electronic based project due soon with filmmaker Melvin Van Peebles). The crew is made up of some of the most skilled and talented (and criminally under recognised) musicians on the planet, led by drummer Malcolm Catto, who has been prominently sampled by Madlib for his Yesterday’s New Quintet project, played on J Rocc’s Some Cold Rock Stuf and also drums for Quantic’s Combo Barbaro. Band of the Wall are responsible for bringing them to Manchester – catch them on one of the best sound systems going.

Fri 15 Nov, Band on the Wall, 25 Swan Street, M4 5JZ, 8.30pm – late, 8pm, £14, www.seetickets.com
