Conor Thomas’ monthly show on NTS, which takes listeners to the more sinister crevices of electronic music, gives a glimpse into the kinds of sounds his label, The Death of Rave, can be defined by. Part of Manchester-based Boomkat, his label scratches deep beyond the surface and exposes the experimental, dark and anguished corners of electronic music that can be heard via releases from the likes of Croww and Rian Treanor. This Thursday they invite Ugandan label Nyege Nyege Tapes and prolific Tanzanian collective Sisso Studios on their first UK tour for an evening of uncompromising, frenetic sounds. Bampa Pana & Makavelli are pioneers in Singeli; up-tempo rhythms combined with defiant lyrics that are accelerated by an energy that isn’t too distant from gabber, and head DJ of the Nyege Nyege label, Moroto Hvy Ind, offers deep grooves and hard-edged Afro-tech. The aforementioned Croww, Rian Treanor and Conor Thomas will be on DJ duties.
