A quiet night in with food and a good book takes on a new twist next week as Manchester’s award-winning restaurant Aumbry hosts a four-course meal inspired by Sybille Bedford’s novel, A Legacy. Entitled Eat a Book, the event will see the restaurant put its talents to use and create a sensational feast based on key parts of the novel, set in Germany in the decades before WWI. Start with smoked boar and sweet clouded wine; crayfish, asparagus and soft boiled gull’s egg; followed by sea bass baked in a salt crust with fennel and rosemary bread, and finish up with a rich sacher torte and Turkish delight. What’s more, actress Julie Hesmondhalgh of Coronation Street fame will be reading passages from the book as dishes are served. The event falls as part of the Prestwich Book Festival, which takes place until 16th June. For more information on the festival, check the website.
