A brand new piece of the Eden Project is set to open in the North as plans for a new Morecambe site move forward.
After several delays, a major update has now been provided on a revised opening date for the landmark project.
Eden Project Morecambe was the subject of discussion in the House of Commons earlier this week (Mon 3 Mar), when Kevin Hollinrake, Conservative MP for Thirsk and Malton, asked when the space is expected to be completed and open to visitors.
In response, Alex Norris, Labour MP for Nottingham North and Kimberley, responded with the latest timeline and plans for the site, revealing that all allocated funding (£100m) would be available from early 2026. Eden Project Morecambe is then expected to open to the public two years later, in 2028.
Lancashire Council granted planning permission for the massive eco-development back in 2022, with the structure promising to ‘reimagine the British seaside resort for the 21st century.’
Where will Eden Project Morecambe be?
The venue, which is set to include three large biomes, will be situated on the central promenade of Morecambe, on the former site of the Bubbles leisure complex.
What will Eden Project Morecambe offer?
The ambitious space will be divided up into four distinct areas: Above the Bay, focusing on plants, art and life linked to the sun, Below The Bay showcasing immersive theatrical experiences inspired by the tides and lunar rhythms, The Natural Sanctuary featuring bookable wellbeing treatments and The Natural Observatory which will house the venue’s educational output.
When will Eden Project Morecambe open?
The venue is being earmarked for a revised 2028 opening, two years later than its original 2026 target.
Online and in-person Community Conversations will be taking place on the first Tuesday of every month between now and January, offering the public regular updates and the opportunity to help shape the future of the project. You can register for Community Conversations here.
