Author of Portico Prize-shortlisted Hungry, the Stars and Everything, Emma Jane Unsworth will be launching her second novel, Animals, at Waterstones Deansgate in May. Described by fellow writer Caitlin Moran as “Withnail with girls,” Animals is a  booze-fuelled tale of two friends caught between carrying on the party and settling down. To celebrate its release, Unsworth will be joined by special guest readers: Robert Williams, reading from his new book, Into the Trees; Aumbry Restaurant’s head chef, Mary Ellen McTague, who will give a preview of her upcoming semi-autobiographical book about her life in restaurants; and DJ and MMU Writing Graduate Greg Thorpe. Flash fiction duo Les Malheureux will also be performing, bringing their witty short story-telling mixed with music and visuals. Event is free but if you’d like to attend, email your name and number to events.manchester@waterstones.com.
