Despite being one of the key issues of our time, the strange thing about feminism is that not everybody really properly understands it as a concept, nevermind what it is trying to rail against – admittedly, this lack of understanding isn’t helped by the various different factions within feminism itself either. So, for one day only, Blank Media Collective is giving you the opportunity to sit down with some of the leading lights and most important feminist names in the country in a speed debate. The line-up includes Ally Fogg (The Guardian), Lucy-Anne Holmes (No More Page 3), Vicky Horne (feminist art historian), Kate Smurthwaite (comedian/political activist), Caroline Craido-Perez (writer for New Statesmen and the ‘Keep a woman on English banknotes’ campaign) – all of whom will be on hand to have their brains picked, challenging preconceptions and giving the chance to pass on insight and understanding. The afternoon session will include a discussion between the aforementioned speakers and artists from the Equals project, including Sarah Maple (‘The best of the new young British artists,’ Independent on Sunday), former James Bond star Margaret Nolen and Roseanna Robertson among others.
